Web App FAQ's-After the CURB hub install

Why is my other data or individual clamp data off in the Live View By Circuit section of the CURB app?

There is a known bug in the Live Usage By Circuit with the "Other" calculations. It sounds like this is what you are experiencing. I will have the engineers look into it. However, It will most likely get resolved with the app update soon to be released in the coming months. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Why do I see multiples of my energy the plan in the Energy Provider settings?

We access all available plans through an open API that updates US rate plans on an ongoing basis. Some plans may not be available yet, but will be whenever the API is updated. Because this is managed by a third-party, we do not have control of updates. All duplicate plans are the same, this is likely a UI glitch within the API.

Can I download my data?

The desktop app now features a "Download Data" link where you can download a .csv file of your energy use. This includes the last seven days worth of data. This data gives you a snapshot of all your consumption and production in watts, at one-hour (averaged) increments. To download the file, simply select the link from your navigation menu. You can use this to track your usage history for free.

Does CURB have an open API?

Here is our current API (docs.energycurb.com). We are currently working on a way to access CURBs via http query, but it is not available at this time. Also, our support doesn't cover customization at this time. You can tinker with the way CURB works, but we don't currently support the customization of the CURB app.

Why does CURB only work with Smart Things?

If you go onto Samsung's site and/or Amazon you can see a full list of things that can be run through the SmartThings hub. Currently Samsung is our only integrated platform. Technically we could integrate with any platform that will allow us access to their API, but we went with Samsung because of who they are and the scope of their product line. It's a loose partnership and we will join whichever platform the market tells us to.

SmartThings functionality within the CURB app is limited to being able to turn on and off your SmartThings devices. This is available in the SmartThings widget.

I can not connect my SmartThings account?

SmartThings changes their API frequently, so we have to make a updates to our codebase as that happens.

To be sure, when you add SmartThings use your web Dashboard in your browser, and not through the mobile app. This is to ensure that communications work smoothly with the SmartThings API.
Also, Internet Explorer is not a support web browser with the web app so try Chrome or Firefox.

You need to select "Authorize" to allow the SmartThings to appear in the CURB dashboard. It seems a bit misleading, but that is how the Samsung's interface works.

What is the difference between Watt and Kilowatt-hour (kWh)?

Watt is the unit of power whereas kilowatt-hour (kWh) is the unit of energy.

Watt indicates the rate of using energy in J/s. You can compare this to how fast water is flowing out of a water pipe. If you have a Light bulb that has a rating of 100 watt, it means that the light bulb consumes 100 J per second.

kWh is the unit of energy. You can compare this to the volume of water that comes out of the pipe. A 100 watt light bulb when used for an hour will consume 100 Watt-hour of energy which is 0.1 kWh of energy.

If you multiply the total energy usage kWh with charge per kWh (This should be on your electricity bill), you get your total Electricity cost.

Watt and Kilowatt-hour (kWh) practical example

  • Your electricity provider charges you 11 cents ($.11) per kWh.
  • You have an Electric Heater that consumes 1500 watts (1.5kw). You use the Electric Heater for 3 hours everyday.
  • For 3 hours it will cost you 1.5kw x 3hours = 4.5kWh x .11 = .495 cents (50 cents)
  • Over a month it will cost you .495 x 30days = $14.85
